The Energy Project

I am on a call with a webinar with Tony Schwartz of The Energy Project.  I have been a fan of his for the last 10 years. Tony’s big point is that “Managing your energy is more important that managing your time.” His new book is The Way We’re Working Isnt Working.

What I like about Tony is that he focuses on what works, how we can be our best.  And that requires being well-rested, creating time for creative thinking, etc.  He wants us to get out of the crazy workaholic culture that we live in.  But not to just slack off!  Rather, he makes a convincing argument that we will be more productive and get more done.

This is an excellent and thought-provoking image that I got from my friend Deb Gurke at the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.  Read her excellent blog here.

What I like about this image is that it makes me realize that there are so many ways to interact with others.  There is not just one way to have a conversation.  And that means that some ways will be better suited to certain situations than others.

For example, if you just want to exchange a small amount of discrete information, a text works well.  But if there is any nuance required, then it does not work so well.  If you want to update a whole community of folks, social media sites like Facebook work very well.

This means that diagnosis of the need is very important.  And keeping up with the available tools is too.
