Conversation Prism

This is an excellent and thought-provoking image that I got from my friend Deb Gurke at the Wisconsin Association of School Boards.  Read her excellent blog here.

What I like about this image is that it makes me realize that there are so many ways to interact with others.  There is not just one way to have a conversation.  And that means that some ways will be better suited to certain situations than others.

For example, if you just want to exchange a small amount of discrete information, a text works well.  But if there is any nuance required, then it does not work so well.  If you want to update a whole community of folks, social media sites like Facebook work very well.

This means that diagnosis of the need is very important.  And keeping up with the available tools is too.
